What you'll accomplish: Create a complete membership level structure for a new fiscal year, including free/complimentary memberships and tiered paid levels with proper amount ranges in about 10 minutes.

Timing Critical

New membership levels should only be created/updated BEFORE the fiscal year starts. Historical membership levels should not be updated after the fiscal year begins.

Step 1: Access Membership Level Management

  1. Navigate to the Membership app
  2. Click the Manage Membership Level tab
  3. Wait for the interface to load

Step 2: Select Fiscal Year Configuration

Choose Target Fiscal Year:

  1. Click the Fiscal Year dropdown
  2. Select the fiscal year you're configuring
  3. Verify the correct year is selected

Configure Type Settings (if applicable): If your organization uses membership types:

  1. Click the Type dropdown
  2. Select the membership type for these levels
  3. Note that different types may have different level structures

Step 3: Create Free/Complimentary Level

Free/Comp Level Purpose:

  • Complimentary memberships for special circumstances
  • Staff/volunteer memberships
  • Scholarship or hardship memberships
  • Introductory or trial memberships

Configuration Options:

  • Level Name: "Friend", "Complimentary", "Honorary"
  • Amount Range: Typically $0.00 - $0.00 or $0.00 - $99.99
  • Benefits: May include basic membership benefits
  1. Click "Add Free/Comp Membership"
  2. Configure the free level settings:
    • Level Name: Enter descriptive name (e.g., "Friend", "Complimentary")
    • Amount Range: Set appropriate range for free memberships
  3. Review settings before proceeding

Step 4: Add Paid Membership Levels

  1. Click "Add Level" to create additional membership tiers
  2. Configure each level with:

Amount Range Rules:

  • No gaps: Maximum of one level + $0.01 = Minimum of next level
  • No overlaps: Amount ranges cannot overlap between levels
  • Precision: Amounts accurate to $0.01
  • Logical progression: Levels should increase in amount

For Each Level:

  1. Level Name: Enter clear, descriptive name
  2. Minimum Amount: Must be $0.01 greater than prior level maximum
  3. Maximum Amount: Must be $0.01 less than next level minimum
  4. Repeat for all desired levels

Step 5: Validate Amount Ranges

Critical Validation Checks:

  • No gaps between level amounts
  • No overlaps in amount ranges
  • Logical progression from lowest to highest
  • Appropriate intervals for your organization
